PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS

 
1. Minimum Ages
Written exam 15
Solo 16
License 17

2. You must be able to read, speak and understand English


3. FAA medical certificate required (before solo) - 1st, 2nd, 3rd class

You must undergo a routine medical exam by an FAA designated 
doctor called an aviation medical examiner (AME). A 3rd class med ical certificate is valid for 36 months if you are younger than 40. It is valid for 24 months if you are 40 or older.

4. You must pass a knowledge test.
There are 60 multiple choice questions taken from the test bank of approximately 700 airplane-related questions. A passing score is 70% or greater. We are a certified test site.

5. Obtain required aeronautical experience (minimums)
(a) 40 hours of flight time that includes at least 20 hours of instruction with your CFI including at least:
3 hours of cross country
3 hours of night including 10 takeoff's and landings, and 1 x-c of over 100 n.m.
3 hours of instrument

(b) 10 hours of solo flight time that includes at least
5 hours of cross country
1 cross-country of 150 nm, with landings at three points, one of which is more than 50 nm from the point of departure.
3 take offs and three landings to a full stop at an airport with an operating control tower. 

6. Successful completion of a practical test which will be given by an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner.

7. Cost
The national average is between $4000 and $5000 to obtain an airplane pilot's license. Your cost may be less or more depending on your training frequency and skill levels.

8. Amount of time required to obtain your license.
The national average is 50 to 55 hours of flying time. If you fly once a week it will take you about one year. If you fly twice each week, it will take about 6 months. It is up to you how often you would like to fly. We are open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., seven days.
